Vintage gold foil double hemisphere framed map. 31.5 x 25.5 • The Original Artwork: The original historic map was created in 1630 by the famous Dutch engraver and cartographer Henricus Hondius. It is widely celebrated as one of the definitive masterpieces from the Golden Age of Dutch cartography. • Corner Portraits: The figures anchoring the corners are highly significant. They establish the mapmaker's cartographic lineage by depicting: • Julius Caesar (top left) • Claudius Ptolemy (top right) • Gerard Mercator (bottom left) • Jodocus Hondius (Henricus's father, bottom right) • Border Illustrations: The surrounding scenes display intricate, allegorical vignettes representing the four classical elements (Fire, Air, Earth, and Water).
